VIPs Lab is a laboratory for overseas returned scholars sponsored by the Ministry of Education (MOE), China, which is affiliated with the School of Electronic Engineering, Xidian University, Xi'an, China. It is located at the Main Building III-418-430, Scientific Building B-401 of the North Campus of Xidian University. Now, the Director of VIPs Lab is Prof.  Xinbo Gao.

"VIPs" means "Video & Image Processing System" or "Visual Information Processing". As the name suggests, the main research interests of VIPs Lab include visual information processing, analysis, and under-standing. Currently our research mainly involves: artificial intelligence, computer vision, machine learning, pattern recognition,  and their applications in visual information processing, analysis and understanding, including big visual data mining and deep learning, smart city and so on.

VIPs Lab was funded in 2001. Since then, It has been sponsored by NSFC, MOE, MOST, Shaanxi Province and other organizations. So far, VIPs Lab has been selected as the Key Technological Creation Team by Shaanxi Province, the Innovative Research Team in University by Ministry of Education, and Innovation Team in the Important Field by Ministry of Science and Technology, China, in 2012, 2013 and 2014, respectively.
